Medi-Cal Expansion Boosts Health for Undocumented Californians This year, California became the first state in the nation to expand comprehensive Medi-Cal coverage to all eligible Californians regardless of immigration status, resulting in significant improvements in health outcomes and access to care for immigrant communities. Our latest factsheet by Adriana Ramos-Yamamoto and Monica Saucedo highlights the following impacts: Over 700,000 undocumented Californians have gained Medi-Cal coverage since 2019. Newly covered individuals report improved health outcomes. Financial barriers to health care have been reduced for many immigrant families.
