Sacramento City Councilman Eric Guerra, the Mayor, and number of local politicians assert that Sacramento will remain a sanctuary city, and that all public officials will refuse to cooperate with ICE in their proclaimed mass deportations. Under California law and local ordinances, no state or county funds can be used in the enforcement of immigration laws, and public employees may not cooperate with federal officials seeking to enforce immigration laws.
Cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, and funding of cooperative efforts at immigration enforcement is prohibited by state law known as the California Values Act.
Elected officials stressed that we did not cooperate in 2017 ( Trump 1), and we will not cooperate in 2025 (Trump 2).
