The main stream press seems focused now on declaring a “crisis at the border.”. - the arrival of a few thousand refugees and asylum seekers.
Our response should be; There is no crisis ! Why Panic?
As a nation we can accept and accommodate these new immigrants. Many are fleeing catastrophes created by U.S. neoliberal capitalism and imperialism.
The response should be; provide the refugees with a safe harbor, ( As required by international conventions the U.S. has endorsed. )
Safe harbor would be safety and an opportunity for a legal hearing on the application for asylum.
Although ICE, the Border Patrol, and the Republican political machine see and declare a crisis, we should not feed into that narrative.
