Trump Escalates Anti Immigrant Assault in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. — President Trump on Tuesday accused Joseph R. Biden Jr. of seeking to throw open the United States’ borders to criminals and disease, using the backdrop of a border city to stoke fears of immigrants as Democrats prepared for the second day of the party’s nominating convention.
Speaking at an airport hangar, Mr. Trump boasted about his own efforts to sharply limit immigration during his time in office, claiming to have made the country safer by blocking asylum seekers, refugees and other immigrants seeking to live and work in the United States.
The president reprised the darkest language of his 2016 campaign, warning that should Mr. Biden win the presidency, the Trump-era restrictions on foreigners would be abandoned in favor of policies that he said would allow “aliens with criminal records” to roam free across the country, threatening violence and stealing jobs from Americans.
“We’re talking about abolishing ICE. We’re talking about abolishing prisons,” Mr. Trump said to an enthusiastic but small crowd, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “Biden’s campaign has turned into a cult for open border and other zealots.”
Mr. Trump’s anti-immigrant stance helped him win the election in 2016 and has been at the core of his presidency. He has denied entry to foreigners seeking protection from persecution, tried to end a program shielding from deportation young people brought to the United States illegally as children and cut back on legal immigration programs.

While courts have blocked some of his most extreme efforts, Mr. Trump and his top aides have succeeded in making it harder for immigrants to enter the country.

Mijente makes the argument from an immigration perspective well,
For years, Mijente has been sounding the alarm about the dangers of DHS, an agency that is already bloated, overfunded, and operates with impunity.
For years they have been practicing and perfecting their tactics on our communities. The difference in Portland is that they implemented those tactics openly and under the protection of an authoritarian president.
If this is what they do to mostly white U.S. citizens in front of the media, imagine what they are doing to people in their custody, to people who are seeking refuge in isolated parts of the border.
We must defeat Trump in November. But that’s not all. We must defeat Trumpism as well. That means dismantling agencies like DHS, which oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol. Mijente is committed to this fight. Are you with us?

The Need to Defeat Trump
¡Hay que derrotar a Trump, desacreditar su movimiento y elegir a candidatos progresistas ¡
Los que firmamos esta declaración somos socialistas democráticos que queremos insistir en que la prioridad para la izquierda en el 2020 debe ser la derrota electoral de Donald Trump y su Partido Republicano. Hoy por hoy, la única forma de lograrlo es votando por su contrincante Demócrata en noviembre.
El autoritarismo racista, xenófobo y misógino del trompismo representa un peligro inmediato, uno de vida o muerte para las personas de color, para los inmigrantes, para los derechos reproductivos, para los sindicatos, para las personas LGBTQIA, para los musulmanes, judÃos y miembros de otras religiones, asà como para la democracia en sÃ. La victoria de Trump fortalecerÃa un estado autoritario, aumentarÃa las agresiones imperiales y cerrarÃa el espacio polÃtico para la izquierda y demás fuerzas democráticas en los Estados Unidos. La tarea polÃtica más urgente que enfrentamos es revertir este creciente neofascismo: es un imperativo estratégico para nuestro paÃs.
Al usar el hambre para obligar a la gente a trabajar, el régimen de Trump les impone miles de muertos a las comunidades negra, latina, inmigrante asi como a las mujeres. Insiste en la reapertura económica pese a una pandemia descontrolada. El régimen tolera asesinatos como los de George Floyd, Breonna Taylor y Ahmaud Arbery; cierra las clÃnicas de aborto; y aplica lo que puede ser una pena de muerte a los encarcelados, incluyendo los detenidos por ICE. Los ataques de turbas alentadas por el presidente contra gobiernos estatales en manos del Partido Demócrata recuerdan cómo los terroristas partidarios del Sur revirtieron la Reconstrucción después de la Guerra Civil.
Miles mueren por el coronavirus todas las semanas, de manera desproporcionada personas de color, y sobre todo las personas de tercera edad que habitan las residencias de ancianos, los encarcelados y los inmigrantes detenidos. ¿Cuántos más hay que sacrificar?
Creemos que la mejor manera de derrotar al trompismo, asà como al propio Trump, es con una plataforma que rompa decisivamente con las polÃticas neoliberales, especialmente la austeridad, la privatización, la desregulación y los acuerdos comerciales antiobreros. Pero a corto plazo, como cuestión práctica, también hay que forjar alianzas con otras fuerzas que se oponen a Trump, en aras de una victoria Demócrata en noviembre.
Debemos continuar promoviendo los intereses del pueblo trabajador por encima de los del 1%, enfrentando el racismo y el sexismo institucional en la aplicación de la ley, en el empleo y en los servicios sociales, abordando el catastrófico cambio climático y promoviendo la salud pública. Pero ese enfoque central no tiene por qué impedirnos promover el voto en contra de Trump. Tampoco debe disuadirnos de respaldar con entusiasmo a cargos públicos y candidatos progresistas como las cuatro congresistas conocidas como “the squad” en la Cámara de Representantes.
De especial importancia es apoyar vigorosamente a los socialistas democráticos declarados, como el senador Bernie Sanders y las representantes Alexandria Ocasio Cortez y Rashida Tlaib. Hay que defenderlos en contra de las campañas que buscan desprestigiarlos y derrotarlos, sobre todo para que más gente progresista logre cargos públicos.
Nuestro trabajo electoral tendrá mayor impacto si se realiza de manera cooperativa con todos los sectores progresistas, como sindicatos, grupos comunitarios y de derechos civiles asà como organizaciones polÃticas progresistas. Este enfoque colaborativo impulsó la campaña presidencial de Bernie Sanders y ayudó a la elección de Ocasio-Cortez y Tlaib, entre otros.
El compromiso de Trump con la destrucción de las instituciones democráticas básicas (el derecho al voto, un poder judicial independiente, una prensa libre, el Congreso como un poder del estado de igual rango al ejecutivo, el carácter soberano de los gobiernos estatales) bloquearÃa cualquier agenda progresista. No hay nada más importante que garantizar que sea echado de la Casa Blanca.
