I am one of the vast majority of workers at Gerawan trying to get rid of UFW. UFW won an election here 25 years ago but shortly after abandoned the employees without negotiating a contract. UFW suddenly returned and said we had to pay them or be fired even though 99% of us had never voted for UFW. Thousands of farm workers and I voted on whether to decertify a union that none of us knew represented us. At Gerawan we have a long history of earning the highest wages. Everything was fine until the United Farm Workers came back and told us to pay dues or lose our jobs. It’s not only the company that is challenging the mandatory “mediation” law, it is we the employees challenging it. UFW wants to force a so-called contract on us without giving us a choice. The “contract” was not negotiated, it was written by the state, and we had no input. This “contract” would also strip us of the right to continue the massive strike protests we had been doing to oppose UFW. Fortunately, the 5th District Court of Appeal deemed this unconstitutional and the case is now in the California Supreme Court. If Bacon had his way, this unconstitutional “contract” would be forced on us whether we want it or not. The Nation needs to be careful about who it lets write articles. Bacon doesn’t care about farmworkers. He cares only about UFW and forced unionization. #Pickjustice.com

- Silvia LopezSilvia Lopezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13073149179411672729noreply@blogger.com
